Topic #1065: Extra lines
By William Durham (PoorColdBoy )

Lately I've been getting extra bold-lines, both horizontal and vertical, in addition to those used to highlight every 5 squares. Also, the right-hand edge of the sidebar with "Home", "Puzzle List", etc. has been blocked by the main puzzle area. I use Safari as my browser. I've been playing for years, and have never had this problem before.

Hm. That sounds like the zoom on your browser is something other than 100%. Could you check that? If it's not that, please let me know that, too, because there are other things that we can look at to try to figure this out.

William, I had a similar problem but switched to SVG mode in settings. It's a bit different but at least I can now solve and create puzzles.

Weird... I keep getting security errors when I try to reply here. What happens if I post this instead of my actual posting?

William, if you do want to switch to SVG mode, here is how to do it:

1) Click on Settings.
2) Click on the tab called Options.
3) Scroll down until you see "Drawing Mode."
4) Select "Use SVG mode."
5) At the bottom of the page, click on the button that says, "Save Your Changes."

But definitely check your browser's zoom setting first, because that's the most likely culprit. Though the nice thing about SVG mode is that it works better at different zooms than HTML mode does.

Weird. It seems to have been upset by the words "Options tab." I changed it to say "the tab called Options" and it posted fine. (This is a problem in the webserver's code, not in code written by Jan or me.)

I checked my browser's zoom, re-set it to 0, and it worked. Thanks for the suggestion. Now to today's puzzles. Thanks again.

Coolness! Thanks for the update!

I've had that problem with my fiance's computer. I always check the zoom first, but sometimes I have to reduce the zoom to 80% or less. It's weird.

I guess I could ask him whether he minds if I change the setting from HTML to SVG. ^_^

Kristen - HTML and SVG are a webpbn setting on the website, not a setting on the computer, so unless he shares your webpbn account the change shouldn't affect him. :)

oh, okay :)
