Found to be solvable with moderate lookahead by wombatilim.

Initial LL solves 67%.

R24: Whether the 1 is in C2 or C4, R23C4 is black. LL.

C3: EL v. C5 marks R1-3 white.

The first Pete, "Pal the Wonder Dog", had a partial ring around his right eye, which was made into a complete circle using makeup. He worked in the series from 1927 - 1932.

His successor and son, "Lucenay's Peter", had no ring, so a circle was drawn around his left eye. He worked until 1938.

A number of other unrelated dogs were used in later episodes.

Tricky top 10 rows. Had a couple of false starts.

I just learned that his eye ring was applied each day by none other than Max Factor!
