Puzzle Description:

The year of the Rat begins this year on Feb. 7th. Rats are charming, and hard-working and frequently wealthy. They also spread disease, but hey - no one's perfect!

What is the Ox? I know that's what I am, but I forget the qualities.
#2: Deana L (ffswife) on Jan 8, 2008 [SPOILER]
You'd be hard pressed to name ANY creature that didn't spread disease! Rats get a bad name.
#3: Meg Tayler (rebelcat) on Jan 8, 2008 [SPOILER]
I just made an Ox puzzle - go see! :-)
#4: Meg Tayler (rebelcat) on Jan 8, 2008 [SPOILER]
You're right, Deana. My husband said the same thing - it's really the fleas that carry plague, not the rats. However, the Rat in a zodiacal sense IS a harbinger of pestilence and war (because there's always a negative to balance the positive).

I want to thank you in advance for a larger B&W puzzle, now I will have something to do when I drink my morning coffee :)
that is as soon as this site lets me print it..
#6: Arduinna (arduinna) on Jan 8, 2008 [SPOILER]
I used to babysit for some kids that had pet rats. Most of them had zero personality, but they had this great big butterscotch-colored rat who would close his eyes when you scratched behind his ears, just like a cat!
#7: Arduinna (arduinna) on Jan 8, 2008
Hee hee. I was rereading my earlier post and it looks like most of the kids had zero personality. I could edit it, but it's pretty much true, so I'll leave it!
#8: Bionerd (nieboo) on Jan 8, 2008 [SPOILER]
I like rats. After working at a research lab though I only pity them now.
I'm the year of the Rooster. No jokes, my daddy is on this site.
#9: Meg Tayler (rebelcat) on Jan 9, 2008 [SPOILER]
Nieboo - I just finished a rooster puzzle for you! No jokes, but because of the size I did have to use the French term for rooster, instead of the English.
#10: Bionerd (nieboo) on Jan 9, 2008
Haha, Thanks rebelcat!
#11: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Jan 9, 2008
well I couldn't wait for the print puzzle thing to work for me, so I DID IT!!!
good puzzle I look forward to doing the other ones.
I was born in 1957 which one am I?
#12: Meg Tayler (rebelcat) on Jan 9, 2008 [SPOILER]
It depends... If you were born between Feb. 12, 1956 and Jan. 30, 1957, then you're a Monkey. And if you were born between Jan. 31, 1957 to Feb. 17, 1958, then you're a Rooster. :-)
#13: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Jan 9, 2008
I guess I'm a rooster, born in July. Though I should be a Monkey, cause my house is FULL of them.
#14: Bionerd (nieboo) on Jan 9, 2008 [SPOILER]
Roosters! Woot!
#15: Jen (lightvader) on Jan 10, 2008 [SPOILER]
In my house we have a tiger, a rat, an ox, and a rabbit
#16: Meg Tayler (rebelcat) on Jan 10, 2008
I've done two of those, so far! :-)
#17: Jen (lightvader) on Jan 11, 2008
Yup, and I solved them both!
#18: Kris (aphrodite0385) on Jan 12, 2008 [SPOILER]
I'm an ox, and it's advised that the ox stays aways from the sheep. My youngest sister is a sheep, and the one person that I've always fought with.
#19: Jen (lightvader) on Jan 12, 2008 [SPOILER]
I'm an ox and I always fight with my brother who is a rat. I don't think anyone in my family is a sheep.
#20: Merili (merilinnuke) on Aug 18, 2008 [SPOILER]
We have a rat (me), a monkey, 3 dogs, 2 roosters, a dragon, a tiger and an ox. Quite a zoo :) Though only the rat, the monkey and one dog are together 24/7

Thank you for a lovely puzzel:-)
#22: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on May 17, 2019 [SPOILER]
I forget the story, but all the zodiac animals had a race, to determine which order they'd be on the calendar. The Rat was clever, and cheated somehow, so he came in first.
#23: Ben Fong (darkman) on Jul 2, 2020 [SPOILER]
Impressive getting the chinese character in. I'm an ox as well and the story i heard was that it was a race to cross a river. The rat convinced the ox to let the rat sit on its shoulder so it wouldn't drown. Ox was in the lead but right before landfall rat jumped to shore winning the race.
#24: Ben Fong (darkman) on Jul 2, 2020 [SPOILER]
Growing up it always bothered my inner nerd that the snake or dragon didn't win cause that's who i thought would win an actual race but my grow'd up self understands that in these stories they want to extol the virtues of the animals. Ox (slow steady hard working) and the cleverness of the rat
#25: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Jul 2, 2020 [SPOILER]
The rat, bring a rat, cheated. :)
