this is gorgeous!#2: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Jun 27, 2026
I agree! Not a difficult solve but was a time investment and it was totally worth it!#3: Jota (jota) on Jun 28, 2026
Awesome!#4: Joanne Firla (JoFirla) on Jun 28, 2026
I decided to try this because of you guys even though it's very large. I'm currently 68 percent into it but I'm suffering from a bad case of scroll-iosis. I can start to see why this will be worth it in the end, so I'm going to keep going...#5: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Jun 29, 2026
Joanne -- You may already know these, but some things that help with scroll-iosis are:#6: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Jul 3, 2026
* Clicking the "smaller" button until the puzzle is as small as it can go
* Using the arrow keys to shift the clues to whichever side of the puzzle you are working on. That is, if you are working near the right-hand side of the puzzle, press your right-arrow key to move the clues to the right-hand side of the puzzle. Or press the down-arrow key to move the clues from the top of the puzzle to the bottom.
Neither of those totally fixes it (and I think the website may click on the "smaller" button automatically for big puzzles), but sometimes they may help.
Yep, I used the arrow keys a good bit, to get the clues to a manageable location.#7: quetzalcoatlus (quetzalcoatlus) on Jul 3, 2026
My only note is that I wish you had cut off the width at a multiple of 5 :)
Oh right- I made sure to do that for the height… and completely forgot to change the width.#8: Kent (kent) on Jul 6, 2026
I agree with David that this was quite a time commitment for a very nice picture.#9: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Jul 7, 2026
@quetzalcoatlus: Is your original bitmap image available online?
@Joanne: "Scroll-iosis" -- what a great name!
In the Chrome browser, Ctrl/- will reduce the size, Ctrl/+ will increase it, and F11 will make the image fill the screen.
Kent: Oh! I was talking about webpbn's "Smaller" button that is below the puzzle, in the cluster of buttons to the left. Using the browser's Smaller function could help a lot too. Thanks!#10: Kent (kent) on Jul 7, 2026
Valerie, may I suggest a couple of UI enhancements that could help with large puzzles?#11: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Jul 8, 2026
1. If I use the "hover text" option on puzzle cells, a pop-up names the color (e.g. "red") but the horizontal and vertical lengths of the segment appear in the margins, away from the clues. Could the pop-up be enhanced to show the lengths, too? (e.g. "red 23x10"). That would reduce scrolling between the clues and the length counts.
2. The purple "hint" arrow only appears in the margin away from the clues. Could it be changed to appear at both ends?
I want to thank you and all of the puzzle contributors for keeping webpbn.com alive and growing. I started doing these puzzles in Games magazine back in the 90's and I love how much easier it is with webpbn.com's user interface.
Kent -- Thanks for the ideas -- I will add them to my list.#12: quetzalcoatlus (quetzalcoatlus) on Jul 8, 2026
(I haven't worked on the list in a couple of years, but my high-needs kiddo is now in a day program that frees up some of my time, so I expect to be working on the site again later this summer.)

Whenever I look back I notice the problems, which are largely situated in the water. The clouds are the best part, in my opinion. I would fix it but I'm content with calling it a finished piece and just working forward from here. And yes there are 255 colours here. If you can't notice 240 of them, they're probably in the moon or the water-
@quetzalcoatlus: Thanks. I see no need to revise the puzzle. (You might want to mark comment #12 as a spoiler, though.)
