Thanks, Tom. I'm going be thinking hard on a smaller scale so that people like you will have more to solve. What is the largest that you are comfortable with so I know what to aim for?

Norma, width 30-35, height 25 (sometimes 30 if it doesn't have 8 items in any column). I'll back out if I see huge top columns. Max, 40x30, but rarely. Realistically, 35x25 max.

I can't stand solving my own puzzles that are over this max. The Old Lady and the Shoe took me about 12 hours to get right... I hated it by the time I finished it.

I can understand your frustration to a small extent. I have an old, but excellent, monitor and my limit is less than 50 either way or I have to keep sliding back and forth and I get totally lost so have to pass on the larger puzzles.

I have one I finished that I was going to post tomorrow and it may be right up your alley.

No frustration, Norma. I just don't do them. However, I have almost exhausted the supply of webPBN 20x. I tried griddlers a couple years ago, and the look wasn't the same. They seemed less intuitive to complete. Additionally, I really appreciate the community here.

I, too tried other sites, but it just wasn't the same. I am just so comfortable with the way Jan has designed this site that others pale by comparison.

Norma, tried your Thanksgiving puzzle "Scram". That is about the largest I do. It errored out after I solved so was unable to leave comments or rating. Fun puzzle, though. Jan has done a wonderful job. I created a large group of internet retailers that is still going strong. I eventually bowed out (but am forced to be a moderator).

Thanks sgusa. I have been having that problem, too and have been meaning to ask if anyone else is getting errors like unable to save and internal server error. Maybe it's the very large volume of users on this site. If you look at the number of users at any given time it goes on for pages and pages.

Norma, I'm with sgusa on the grid size, sometimes I use another computer with a larger screen and try some of Aldege's larger puzzles that are part of a series, but I prefer ones that are max 30 high and maybe 35 wide.

And I agree with you concerning the other sites! This one is so easy to use and the community is fun.

Thank you Joel. I'll try to make some that will fit your screens. But sometimes I start small and the puzzle seems to take on a life of it's own and I keep having to add room to grow.

oh crap, that might have been what you said! I saw iel and quit reading. never looked it up in a forum, so I have no idea about iel.....apparently I do, or I wouldn't have gotten it. just never knew what it was called or had it explained to me

Boy am I ever feeling the love,lol. How about a group hug. Niki got me on this site and I've never tried another and don't intend to. I love the community here,feels like a big family. I make big and small puzzles,and as you all know am quite verbose in my descriptions,but i have to admit that sometimes I love the challenge of making 20x20 B&W's that are LLS and have a good image and solve. I mostly do these for Sgusa and Joel's benefit. I also have to admit that i really enjoyed doing my Dark Night series. I wish someone else would do a series with a funny story. Norma's Halloween series was great fun.:)

I know Niki solves...at times, at least. she got you hooked and all....but why doesn't she join the fam and ever comment? what gives? just curious.... and after your "traitor" puzzle, I'm also kinda curious as to what author/s she's partial to....;)

Kurt, it means "internal edge logic." As you solve, you create internal edges, rather than just the periphery. You can go a step beyond that by looking at the numbers in the clues. If you have a 6 in say row 2 (without row 1 solved), a 2 in row 3, if you have three straight clues that are longer than 2, you can eliminate one of them (as that will contradict r3).

You already know this. For the benefit of newer solvers... :D

Kristen, it is cool. Kind of a pagan deal with a cross with Christianity. All Saint's Day (which is the same). The history is fascinating. I didn't mean to lose your comment. Blustering about the proper size for puzzles for my own benefit :D
