Thank you Valerie. I wish I knew how to make the create puzzle grid so I can make more puzzles. Going SVG made it possible for me to solve, but I can't create.
#24: Bill Eisenmann (Bullet) on Jul 25, 2022
Oh, Norma, that's the saddest thing I've heard in a long time :((((

I just LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVE your puzzles!

Valerie, can something be done?

Or is it Norma's computer?

(And someone clawed some of that red couch ...)
#25: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jul 25, 2022
I may have a solution. I still have the previous monitor and there is nothing wrong with it. My great grandson just thougt it would be nice for me to have a bigger screen and for most things it is. Unfortunatly he currently is in the clutches of the Covid virus so I will wait until he recovers fully. But this monitor has a place where I can plug in another device so with his help I may be able to fire up the old computer which had not problems.
#26: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Jul 25, 2022
Hey Norma? You could switch to HTML mode to create puzzles and then back to SVG mode to solve them. Would that work?

Also: I miss your puzzles too!

I hope your grandson feels better soon!!
#27: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jul 26, 2022
I tried switching and it didn't work.
#28: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Jul 26, 2022
Hm. Often after switching between modes the browser remembers the wrong one. To fix that, you need to right-click on a blank white area of the screen and choose "Reload Frame." That should get the correct mode loaded up.

I'm not sure that will fix things, but maybe?
#29: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jul 26, 2022
I created a simple puzzle to publish to see what would happen. When I was given the opportunity to solve it the lines were normal. But when I tried an edit the lines were still off. Earlier puzzles looked OK. I found it kind of strange how dependent I was on the 5 x 5 grid to create.
#30: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Jul 27, 2022
Oh how I wish it was easier for me to pop by where you live and look at your monitor and see if I could find a way to make this work!!
#31: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jul 27, 2022
I have a couple of ideas. I realized we pretty much ignore the heavier lines when making a puzzle and often overlappend them as if they weren't there. So even though the heavy lines are not where they are supposed to be, when the puzzle is published is seems to be correcct.
#32: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Jul 28, 2022
Oh, I've had that issue on work computers, sometimes. Usually, I can fix it in the resolution (sometimes it's set to 105% or something), or I can click the "bigger" and "smaller" options on the solve screen, until those weird extra lines go away.
#33: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jul 28, 2022
I have tried fiddling with anything that might change the appearance, resolutions, browsers, etc. But no luck.
#34: Valerie Mates (valerie) on Jul 28, 2022
Hm. Norma, the lines are definitely not supposed to do that! On my monitor the heavy lines are a nice straight grid, with no gaps or wiggles. I *so* wish I could look at your monitor to try to figure out why it's doing that.

It sounds to me like it could maybe be what Kristen described. On my computer, if I hold down the Ctrl key and roll the mouse wheel back and forth, it zooms the page to be bigger and smaller. While I'm doing that, a little box pops up that tells the current zoom percentage, and there's a button for "Reset" that I can click on to set the zoom back to 100%. If you set a different zoom level *and* your Drawing Model is HTML, that could cause gaps and wiggles in the grid lines. So maybe it's that? But you said you've tried all the modes and that didn't fix it, so probably it's not that.
#35: JoDeen Mozena (ozymoe) on Jul 29, 2022
Hmmm...when I've gotten extra lines or overlapping lines on the grid, I've done just what Kristen described in comment 32. I rely heavily on proper gridding to keep count and fill in the boxes with the correct numbers of "for sure" fill-ins, whether they be black, white, colored or remain grey when I am solving puzzles. Lol...it's gotten so I don't even have to count individual boxes.
#36: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jul 29, 2022
I did not know that. Oddly at 200% the lines behave themselves. They didn't wiggle before. The heavy lines that were supposed to be 5 apart were randomly placed both horizontally and vertically. At least I can make small puzzles as the 200% takes a lot a screen space.
#37: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Jul 30, 2022
Any workaround in a storm, right? :)
#38: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jul 30, 2022
Yep
