You see pictures of families gathered around the radio, all staring at it even though there was no picture.

Is it fictitious Dave?,I love the stories of Lake Wobegon.:)
#15: Dave Oas (khpdave) on Nov 26, 2012
Aldege - Lake Wobegon is fictitious but in name only. The community Garrison Keillor describes as Lake Wobegon could be EXACT depictions of several towns I lived in up there - from the self-deprecating adult Luthren men with dry senses of humor right down to the ever-present potluck hotdish casseroles. When I first heard Keillor talk about Lake Wobegon I didn't get that it was satire - I just thought he was sharing real stories. It wasn't until later that I discovered that most small communities in other parts of the country aren't like that.

I've got to say Aldege, if you like the news from Lake Wobegon you should really try to make a trip to any small town in Minnesota. If you avoid the big cities (Twin Cities, Rochester, Duluth, St. Cloud) and tourist destinations (Brainerd, Bemidji, etc.) you really CAN find communities "where all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above average".

I love that closing line Dave. The funniest news from Lake Wobegon I ever heard was the one where the guy bought a new boat, then had to buy a new truck to pull the boat. When the guys went on their annual fishing trip they figured he was paying about $500 a pound for his fish.:)

I could tell you some ice fishing stories that come pretty close to that cost/pound. Seriously, you've GOT to meet those people!

Seriously Dave,that's funny.:)
